Brian Maxey joined the Stetson Athletics staff as Associate AD for Compliance in May of 2020. Maxey oversees all of the Hatters' compliance efforts with the NCAA, ASUN, Pioneer Football League and MAAC.

A native of Huntington, WV, Maxey attended Marshall University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education in 2008 and a Master of Science in Sport Administration in 2010. 

While at Marshall he worked as a graduate assistant in the Sport Administration program and as an an assistant and intern in the Athletic Compliance office for the Thundering Herd. During his time at his alma mater he created, organized and performed monthly rules education meetings with coaches, student-athletes and tutors while also presenting educational materials to local businesses concerning NCAA rules and regulations.

Maxey was appointed as Assistant Director for Compliance at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi in 2013, a position he held for more than two years. During his time with the Islanders he administered the National Letter of Intent and financial aid agreement programs, assisted with housing needs for student-athletes, administered years coaches recruiting certifications and also monitored playing and practice season regulations.

During his time in Corpus Christi he redesigned the Compliance pages on the Islanders' web site and also served as a member of the university Student Hearing and Appellate Board.

Prior to the start of the 2015 academic year he was promoted to Assistant AD for Compliance, taking on additional responsibilities such as serving as a Title IX investigator, directing monthly compliance meetings with coaches, staff and student-athletes, became the primary liaison between the athletics department and the university's President's office while also serving as a liaison with the Office of the Registrar and the Financial Aid office.

Maxey was promoted again in 2016, to Associate AD for Compliance and Administration, taking on additional responsibilities with the department's budgeting, Life Skills and Leadership initiatives, oversight of the strength and conditioning, sports medicine, women's basketball and women's soccer programs, while also administering the Student Assistance Fund program. He was also a part of the University's Clery Act Committee.

Prior to the start of the 201920 academic year he was named Associate Director of Compliance for the Atlantic 10 Conference in Newport News, VA. There he served as the primary administrator for the NLI program, the annual coaches' recruiting exams and served as the staff liaison to the league's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. 

In addition to his extensive experience, Maxey has participated in a number of regional and national development programs, including the 2017 NACDA Fall Forum, NCAA Regional Rules seminars each year from 2013-19, the NAAC Conference each year from 2013-17 and the Southland Conference Compliance Administrator's meetings.

Prior to getting involved in college athletics, Maxey spent 25 years in retail management, primarily with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

Maxey has a daughter, Breann, who lives in Proctorville, Ohio. He enjoys traveling, music and playing golf.
