Pete Simpson, a Stetson University graduate, joined Stetson Athletics as head cheerleading coach in the spring of 2025 after previously working with the program as a consultant… Leads the Hatters' cheerleading program as it continues to grow its presence on campus, at athletic events and in competition. Under Simpson's leadership, Stetson Cheerleading has continued building its identity while representing the University at games, campus events, community appearances and the Universal Cheerleaders Association College Nationals. Simpson's professional journey with Stetson Cheerleading began as a consultant before he took over as head coach in 2025… His work has centered on athlete development, program identity, performance preparation and creating an environment where student-athletes can continue growing while representing Stetson Athletics. Simpson has embraced the opportunity to help shape the direction of the program while developing athletes who are eager to improve their skills and represent the University with pride. Simpson's athletic background began with a childhood love for gymnastics… The sport provided an early foundation in movement, body control and performance before he transitioned to cheerleading in high school. Drawn to cheerleading by the opportunity to combine his gymnastics background with performance, Simpson continued developing in the sport before eventually moving into coaching… His experience in both gymnastics and cheerleading now influences his work with Stetson's student-athletes. Stetson Cheerleading represents the University throughout the athletic year at games, campus events, community appearances and competitive cheerleading events… The program also competes at the Universal Cheerleaders Association College Nationals. Under Simpson, the Hatters have continued working toward a stronger competitive identity while emphasizing growth, skill development, school pride and team culture. Simpson's vision for the program centers on continuing to build Stetson Cheerleading while creating opportunities for athletes who want to learn, improve and share their enthusiasm for the University. Born in Puerto Rico, Simpson credits much of his drive and work ethic to his parents, Harry and Jocelyne Simpson… As the eldest of three siblings, he witnessed firsthand the sacrifices his parents made to provide opportunities for their family. His parents sold their company and relocated to the mainland United States despite not speaking English and without jobs already in place… Simpson has pointed to their determination, selflessness and discipline as lasting influences on his life. Outside of athletics, Simpson has a background in the creative arts… Previously worked as a makeup artist, with his work appearing in niche fashion magazines and web editorials. That creative background adds another dimension to his coaching approach and his interest in performance, presentation and helping athletes express confidence. Simpson earned his undergraduate degree from Stetson University as a communications major… His background in communications and creative arts has contributed to an interest in helping young talent navigate the entertainment industry. Beyond coaching, Simpson has expressed a desire to use his experiences to mentor and guide aspiring artists while helping them better understand the professional and creative industries. Simpson's approach to coaching centers on growth, care and leaving a positive impact on the people and programs around him… Whether through athletics, creativity or mentorship, he strives to create environments where others have an opportunity to develop.
