Richard Kilwien joined the Stetson Athletics Department as Associate Athletic Director for External Operations in May of 2025. Kilwien oversees external units, including marketing, ticketing, communications, and revenue generation.

With more than 35 years of experience in collegiate athletics, Kilwien joins the Hatters from UC San Diego, where he served seven years as the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director and assisted with the department's transition to NCAA Division I status. Previously, he served as Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Communications at the University of Texas at Arlington and spent the previous 16 years on the West Coast in senior communications and external affairs positions at Santa Clara University, the University of Washington and Saint Mary's College.
Additionally, Kilwien has experience in communications and media relations at Texas Tech University, the University of Houston, and Duke University.
He is a 1988 graduate of Texas Tech University and is married to the former Karen Yee. The couple has a son, Preston, who is currently in his seventh season as professional soccer player in the United Soccer League.
