Stetson offensive standout Tanner Wolfe has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 28, 2007.
Wolfe, a senior out of Hudson, Florida, had a spectacular week leading the Hatters to a pair of road wins at Gardner-Webb and USC Upstate. Friday in night Boiling Springs, NC he scored two of the Hatters' three goals including the golden goal at 103:42 of the second overtime. Not only did he score the first and final goals of the game, he assisted on the second goal scored by junior Kirk LaBusch (Brandon, Fla.).
On Sunday he once again scored the golden goal, this time at 102:43 of the second overtime. Just prior to the goal, the Hatters gained possession of the ball at midfield off of a misfired Spartan free kick. A well-timed pass down the middle sent Wolfe in alone with Upstate goalkeeper Jason McCabe. An ensuing collision between Wolfe and McCabe resulted in a penalty kick for the Hatters. Wolfe took the kick and gave Stetson the 1-0 win. Wolfe registered nine of the Hatters' 15 shots in the game.
After this weekend's efforts, Wolfe increased his team-leading point total to 21 on the season and is now 6th all-time in the Stetson record book with 82. He is one point behind Nick Yocca (1987-90) who has 83 points. The all-time leader for Stetson is Rick Harris (1980-83) with 113 points.
Wolfe is the second Hatter to earn A-Sun Offensive POW honors this year (Freshman Eugene Starikov ? 9/24/07).
