Stetson Athletics Hall of Fame
A point guard for some of head coach Glenn Wilkes’ most successful early teams, Joel Hancock (1958-62) was inducted into the Stetson Athletics Hall of Fame in 1982. With fellow Hall of Famer Dalton Epting and fellow All-American Lamar Deaver in the front court, Hancock helped lead the Hatters to a pair of NAIA national tournaments during his four years at Stetson. The Miami, Fla., native earned All-American honors as a junior in 1961 after leading the Hatters in scoring at 18.7 points per game as Stetson posted its first 20-win season (20-7). He also averaged 4.3 assists and shot 83.8 percent from the free throw line that season. He was even better as a senior, leading the team with 19.9 points per game and shooting a school-record 87.7 percent from the line. He ended his career as Stetson’s all-time leader in free throw percentage (.842) and is one of eight players in program history to reach 1,500 career points (1,539).
