Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. -- The Stetson women's golf team shot a two round score of 655, finishing in eighth place out of 17 schools that participated in the Nova Southeastern Fall Invitational at the PGA National Resort & Spa, on Tuesday.
Stetson shot a 331 in the first round of the tournament, putting the team in 10th place. Freshman Lauren Darnell led the way for the Hatters, with a first-round score of 80 (+8), putting her in a five-way tie for 30th place. Freshman Danielle Jackson (81, +9) followed right behind, finishing the first-round one shot behind teammate Darnell.
The final day of the invitational, Stetson finished in eighth place overall. With a strong second-day performance, Danielle Jackson took over the leadership role for the Hatters. Jackson shot a second round score of 79, giving her a final score of 160, tying for 31st place finish. Lauren Darnell (161) finished tied for 33rd. The rest of the Stetson team put up strong performances, with Senior Ainsley Wellinghoff finishing third for the Hatters (165) and tied for 43rd overall. Freshman Lauren Bryan finished with a first round score of 84 (+12), and a second round score of 90, putting her in 66th place at the end of the tournament. Rounding out the Hatters, Sophomore Natalia Godoy shot a first round score of 97 (+25) and second round score of 85. Godoy finished in a tie for 69th place (182).
The #2 ranked Lynn University golf team took home the win in a one hole playoff over the #1 ranked Florida Southern College. Lynn University golfer Katy McNicoll took first place overall, finishing with a five over par 149.
The Stetson women's golf team will tee off again on November 29-30 at the Winthrop Invitational, taking place at the Debary Golf & Country Club in Debary, Fla.
