In the first match of the Nashville road trip the Stetson volleyball team fell to Lipscomb University in three games 30-19, 30-18, 30-14. 

Junior outside hitter Rebecca Orzechowicz led the Hatters with a double-double. She had 10 kills in the match. She extended her team-leading kill total to 202 on the season. Orzechowicz was one of three Stetson players who reached double figures in digs with 13. Junior Melanie Boyer came up with 11 and senior Rachel Miller led the team with 18.

Stetson opened up the match with a 4-1 run only to see the Lady Bisons tie the score at 4-4 and then 6-6 before outscoring the Hatters 24-13 and taking the first game 30-19.

In game two the Hatters once again opened the scoring with a brief 2-0 lead before Lipscomb took the lead and did not trail for the remainder of the match.

"We struggled offensively", said Hatters Head Coach Cheryl Carlson. "We let them frustrate us a little with their defense. They had 83 digs in the match which is a lot."

Sophomore Sarah Sears led the team in hitting at .312. She finished with five kills and no errors in 16 attempts. Senior setter Karla Readshaw had a pair of kills, eight digs and led the team in assists with 22.

"We serve received well and overall I think we played pretty well", said Carlson. "Stephanie Canfield came off the bench and did a really nice job for us. It was tough to get any real momentum going in a hostile environment".

The loss dropped the Hatters to 7-10 overall, 2-2 in A-Sun play. Lipscomb raised its record to 8-9 and 2-2. Stetson will return to the court on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for its second match on the Nashville trip against Belmont University.
