The Stetson men's soccer team completed the 2007 regular season with a 1-0 win over Georgia Southern University at the Stetson Soccer Complex.
It was a game that featured the Hatter Defenders with sophomore Robert Hodge (Devon, England) scoring the game's only goal and senior goalkeeper Evan White picking up his fifth shutout of the season.
Hodge put the Hatters in front in the 23rd minute with a solid header to the back of the net. He was set up with a corner kick from the left side of the goal by junior Arthur Prescott (Bradenton, Florida). For the remainder of the game both teams had opportunities yet Stetson had a clear advantage in play. In the end Stetson held an 11-4 advantage in shots and won its 11th game of the season raising its record to 11-4-2 overall; the Eagles fell to 6-11-0.
“They are a much better team than their record indicates”, said Hatters Head Coach Logan Fleck. “Evan and our back four did a great job, as they have all year; another blank sheet”.
The Hatters came into tonight's game leading the Atlantic Sun Conference in goals allowed (17) and goals against average (1.00). White is second in the conference in shutouts with his five.
Stetson will now get ready to host the A-Sun Championship Tournament from November 14-17. As the #2 seed the Hatters have a first round bye and will face the winner of #3 Campbell University vs. #6 Gardner-Webb University on Thursday (11/15) at 7:00 p.m.
