Jacksonville, Fla. - A late-inning awakening by the Hatters offense and another stellar outing from Corey Kluber lifted Stetson over North Florida 9-1 in each team's Atlantic Sun Conference opener Friday night at Harmon Stadium. It was the first road win of the year for the Hatters (16-6, 1-0 A-Sun).  Â
Â
UNF (9-13, 0-1 A-Sun) starter Brad Johnson (2-3) kept the Hatters off-balance through five innings but Shane Jordan's infield single to lead off the sixth ignited Stetson's offense. Braedyn Pruitt followed Adam Tindle's sacrifice with a bouncing base hit to right field that brought home Jordan for the game's first run.Â
Â
A two-out rally helped the Hatters gain some distance from the Ospreys. Josh Clendenin and Kevin Johnson delivered back-to-back singles to center. Jordan then reached on a bunt hit ? one of four singles for the senior - and Adam Tindle singled through the hole at third and short to score Stetson's second run.Â
Â
Kluber (4-0) meanwhile kept UNF off the scoreboard for six innings. The Texan struck out seven and walked only one while allowing four singles. However, Jimmy Glanville caught up to the first pitch in the seventh for his second home run of the year, bringing UNF to within 2-1.
Â
Stetson got the run back in the 8th when Jeremy Cruz doubled in Aaron Crittenden with two outs.Â
Â
The Hatters then put it away in the ninth with a six-run inning. Braedyn Pruitt drove in two runs with a single to center. Pruitt scored on Brian Pruitt's single later in the inning to make it 6-1. Jeremy Cruz knocked in another with his third hit of the night. Kevin Johnson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Jordan singled in the final run of the frame.
Â
Robbie Elsemiller recorded his 8th save by pitching the eighth and ninth innings for Stetson.Â
Â
The Hatters will continue the series in Jacksonville with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch Saturday afternoon.Â
