DeLand, Fla. - A five-run fifth inning lifted Nebraska over Stetson, 6-2 Monday afternoon at Melching Field to conclude the Stetson Invitational. Huskers starter Johnny Dorn (2-1) pitched eight solid innings, allowing just two runs on five hits.
Â
The Hatters (10-4) have made a living out of come-from-behind victories, and put together another threat in ninth on Monday. Stetson loaded the bases with no outs, but reliever Steve Edlefsen - who started the game in right field ? coaxed a double play and line out to end the game with only one run scoring.Â
Â
Aaron Crittenden accounted for Stetson's only other run with a leadoff, pinch-hit home run to right-center in the eighth. It was the freshman's first career homer.
Â
Chris Ingoglia (2-2) kept Nebraska off the scoreboard until the fifth. Jake Mort and Steve Edlefsen led off the inning with back-to-back singles and D.J. Belfonte was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a sacrifice fly to plate the game's first run, a walk re-loaded the bases and set up Andrew Brown's 2-RBI single. Jake Opitz added an RBI single and Brown later scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.Â
Â
Stetson reliever Robbie Donovan kept the Hatters in the game with 4 2/3 stellar innings. The freshman allowed just one run on two hits, while striking out three and walking none.Â
Â
The Hatters will play their first road game Tuesday night at South Florida. The game had originally been scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start, but will now begin at 6:00 p.m.
