Jacksonville, Fla. -  Casey Frawley drew a bases-loaded walk in the 8th inning to force in the lead run as Stetson (32-11, 15-3 A-Sun) nipped Jacksonville (24-21, 9-9 A-Sun) 6-4 Sunday afternoon at Alexander Brest Field.Â
Â
Erich Holland singled in pinch-runner Mark Rood to tie the score in the 8th. Stetson had fallen behind 4-3 after the first inning as neither team's starter made it out of the first inning. Both bullpens kept it scoreless until Holland's game-tying single.Â
Â
Justin Dechert (4-2) picked up the win in relief. The freshman retired the side in order in the 8th and pitched around three base runners in the ninth to nail down the victory.
Â
Justin Bass led four Hatters with multi-hit afternoons. Kevin Mierzwinski, who had the team's only extra-base hit, Erich Holland, and Braedyn Pruitt each added two hits on the afternoon.Â
Â
Stetson put up three runs in the top of the first. Shane Jordan and Casey Frawley led off the game with back-to-back infield singles. Braedyn Pruitt was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Justin Bass singled in two runs. That knocked starter Matt Dobbins out of the game after facing only four batters. Kevin Mierzwinski would single in the third run off reliever Adam Rapoza.
Â
JU quickly answered in the bottom of the first inning. Two walks and a single off starter Jake Hitchcock loaded the bases. Ryan McArdle's sacrifice fly scored the Dolphins' first run and Donnie Vickers to plate two more runs that tied the score. Logan James followed with a base hit to center, putting JU on top 4-3, and that prompted a first-inning pitching change for the Hatters.Â
Â
Nick Pugliese turned in 2 2/3 scoreless relief innings for the Hatters. Pugliese gave up two hits, two walks and struck out two. Ian Thompson followed Pugliese's effort with 3 1/3 scoreless frames to keep the Hats close.
Â
Stetson picked up an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Jeremy Cruz came home on a two-out error.Â
