Coral Gables, Fla. - The Miami Hurricanes (26-17) came back in their home ballpark to defeat the nationally ranked Stetson (32-12) baseball team 7-3 Wednesday night. Dennis Raben homered, doubled, drove in two runs, and pitched a scoreless inning of relief to lead Miami.Â
Â
A two-out single in the third from Miami native Jeremy Cruz gave the Hatters a 3-1 lead. Earlier in the inning Braedyn Pruitt drove in Shane Jordan to tie the score.
Â
Miami scored the game's first run when Raben led off the second inning with his 11th home run of the year.Â
Â
The Hurricanes tied it in the bottom of the third when Yonder Alonso cracked a two-run homer to center. It was his team-leading 12th long ball.Â
Â
Mark Sobolewski put Miami ahead in the sixth when his double brought home Jemile Weeks from first base. Stetson starter Corey Kluber (8-1) faced only one more batter before suffering his first loss of the year. The right-hander turned in five innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs with one walk and four strikeouts.Â
Â
Miami starter Manny Miguelez (1-2) settled down after Stetson's three-run third inning. He set down 13 of his last 14, including 10 in a row at one point, after Cruz's two-RBI single that gave the Hatters their only lead. The left-hander went seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts to notch his first win of the year.Â
Â
Miguelez received more support in the seventh. Blake Tekotte was hit by a pitch to start the inning and eventually scored on a 2-out double from Raben to make it 6-3. Weeks then drove home Raben with a single for the final score.Â
Â
For Stetson, Jordan swatted two hits, stole a base, and scored a run. Braedyn Pruitt also turned in a multi-hit night, adding an RBI and a run scored. Freshman Robbie Donovan chipped in with a scoreless relief inning.Â
