Stetson Foiled in Sweep Attempt

Nashville, Tenn. - Stetson avoided its first shutout of the year but Lipscomb salvaged a win from the three-game series with a 4-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Dugan Field.  The Hatters (38-14, 20-4) were unable to take advantage of six walks from the Bisons (27-26, 11-13).

Lipscomb wasted little time getting started.  Shane Simpkins blooped a single to center to plate two runs in the first and give starter Taylor Merry (4-2) an early lead.

In the second Jared Picchiottino led off with a double against the left field wall and Allen Bolden's infield single brought him home for a 3-0 advantage.  The Bisons would go on to load the bases with one out but Chris Ingoglia (8-4) struck out Caleb Joseph and induced an inning-ending fly ball from cleanup hitter Ryan Wilkins to escape further damage.

Joseph led off the fifth with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly to put the Bisons ahead 4-0.  He was one of only two base runners to reach against Ingoglia after the second inning.

Stetson's lone run came in the eighth.  The Hatters loaded the bases with no outs against Merry but reliever Matt Schnelly allowed just one run on a double play.  Schnelly went the rest of the way for this first save.

Shane Jordan and Braedyn Pruitt each knocked out two hits for the Hatters.  Ingoglia went all eight innings for his fourth complete game of the year.

Stetson remains on the road for a 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night game at South Florida, which was added to the schedule to make up an earlier rainout.  The Hatters return home Thursday night face Belmont at Melching Field.
