Hatters Wrap Up Non-Conference Schedule at USF

Tampa, Fla. - The University of South Florida scored single runs in five separate innings and Matt Quevedo tossed a complete game, 3-hit shutout as USF (31-22) topped Stetson (38-15) 5-0 Tuesday night at Red McEwen Field.  It was the first time since May 26, 2005 the Hatters had been shut out.

The Hatters managed just one baserunner past first until loading the bases in the ninth inning. Justin Bass, Aaron Crittenden, and Shane Jordan managed the only Stetson hits.  Braedyn Pruitt walked twice.

Quevedo (4-2) retired 18 in a row until walking Pruitt with two outs in the ninth.  He allowed just three hits and four walks, while striking out four.

Despite allowing just one run, Robby Donovan took the loss to fall to 1-3.  He pitched the first two innings.

Brandin Daniel's team-leading sixth home run of the year gave USF a 1-0 lead in the second inning.  Joey Angelberger followed with a double but Donovan quickly recovered and pitched out of the jam.

Angelberger did drive in a run in his next at bat, however.  It came on a single with two outs, bringing home Addison Maruszak from second base.

USF made it 3-0 in the fifth on a suicide squeeze.  Mike Consolmagno led off the inning with a double, went to second on Ty Taborelli's sacrifice bunt, and scored on the squeeze by Walter Diaz.

The Bulls steady offensive attack resulted in another run in the sixth.  Daniel poked a one-out single to right field and went to second when Angelberger walked.  Nick Cardieri then bounced a ball between first and second to plate Daniel for a 4-0 lead.

Addison Maruszak singled home the Bulls fifth run in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Stetson begins their final regular season series Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. when the Belmont Bruins visit Melching Field in DeLand.
