Hitchcock Named All-Tournament

DeLand, Fla. - Stetson sophomore Jake Hitchcock was named to the Atlantic Sun Championship All-Tournament Team Saturday night.  Hitchcock threw one of the most impressive outings in the history of the tournament on Friday.  The remaining members of the all-tournament team, including MVP Pete Clifford, came from the two teams in the title game, Jacksonville and Belmont.

Jacksonville had to beat Belmont twice to take the title and did just that on Saturday.  Clifford hit a key home run, one of three hit during the tournament, en route to the MVP award.  Also representing the Dolphins were Matt Davis and Carson Andrew (the only other pitchers honored), Ryan McArdle, and Chuck Opachich.  From Belmont, Brady Manifold, Matt Reynolds, Daniel Wagner, and Kane Simmons were recognized.

Hitchcock made the team for his nine and two-thirds inning, one-run, three-hit performance against Mercer Friday afternoon.  His effort helped the Hatters win a 2-1 thriller in 11 innings.

Hitchcock is 5-1 on the year with a 3.51 ERA and led the Atlantic Sun Conference with two shutouts.

The Hatters (41-19) still can receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.  The field of 64 teams will be announced on ESPN Monday at 12:30 p.m.
