Hatters Close Regular Season, Turn Attention to ASUN Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Stetson Hatters wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 12-2 loss to the Queens Royals at The Stick.

The Hatters finished the regular season with a 23-31 overall record and a 13-16 mark in ASUN play and will now turn their focus toward next week's ASUN Championship Tournament in DeLand beginning Tuesday at Melching Field.

Queens jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning before adding another run in the second to build a 4-0 advantage.

Daniel Perez got the Hatters on the board in the third inning, launching the first home run of his collegiate career with a solo shot to straightaway center field.

Stetson later trimmed the deficit to 4-2 in the seventh inning after Corey Robinson tripled and scored on an RBI single from Paul Napolitano.

Queens broke the game open in the eighth inning with an eight-run frame to secure the run-rule victory.

Despite the loss, the Hatters received a strong outing from Lathan Haywood out of the bullpen. Haywood tossed 4.1 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three.
