STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Stetson volleyball squad picked up its second win of the day with a 3-0 (30-27, 30-25, 30-9) triumph over conference foe UNF at the GSU Invitational.
“The whole team played very well,” said head coach Cheryl Carlson. “Everyone stepped up and got key points when needed. We also out-hustled both teams today.”
Senior Karla Readshaw led the charge recording a triple-double with 32 assists, 17 digs and 10 kills. Junior Rebecca Orzechowicz notched her second consecutive double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs while junior Melanie Boyer garnered a match-high 23 digs.
With the score tied at 27 in game one, the Hatters (2-1) reeled off the final three points of the game courtesy of a miscue by the Ospreys (0-3), and kills by Gina Iacona and Beth Slabaugh to close it out and take a 1-0 advantage.
Stetson continued its consistent play in game two building its lead progressively throughout the game before finishing UNF on a kill by Readshaw. The Hatters did not let up in game three putting together numerous runs to finish the Ospreys in a route. A pair of 6-0 runs and 13 assists from Readsaw helped Stetson run away with the final game.
Readshaw and Orzechowicz were both named to the all-tournament team.
The Ospreys were led by Claire Yonutas' 11 assists and 10 digs.
The Hatters will be back in action Friday, Aug. 31 at the CSU Invitational. Stetson will take on Tulsa at 11 a.m. to begin the four-match event.
