(DeLand, Fla.) ? There was lightning in the air as the Stetson University men's soccer team opened its regular season with a 1-0 victory over Flagler College Friday night at Stetson Soccer Complex. It was Head Coach T. Logan Fleck's first win from the helm of the Hatters program.
After a scoreless first half in which Stetson outshot the Saints 8-1, the home team struck with an early goal in the second. At 50:19 Senior Tanner Wolfe took advantage of a booming corner kick by Set Carpintero and found the back of the net to put the Hatters on top. The shot was one of six on the night for Wolfe.
The lone goal was the only tally Stetson would need relying on hustle and outstanding defense for the remainder of play.
The Hatters finished the game with 14 shots, Flagler was held to three. Senior Keeper Evan White was solid in goal garnering his first shutout of the season
Stetson and Flagler were fortunate to play the second half of Friday night's doubleheader in DeLand. Earlier in the women's 4:00 p.m. game versus South Florida had to be postponed due to rain and lightning. The men will return to the field Sunday night when they host the University of South Florida at 7:00 p.m..
