DeLand, Fla. ? It is election day and the early returns are in... Standout Sophomore Tessa Gavilsky (Granite City, Ill.) has been voted in as the 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year. Her running mate, defender Alexis Hermosa (Orlando, Fla.) joins her on the ticket after earning All-Freshman Team status.

Gavilsky has been a dominant force on the Hatters front line all season. Heading into the post-season championship tournament she leads the A-Sun in Points (29), Points per Game (1.61), Goals (11), Shots (69), and is third in assists with 7.

With tournament games remaining Gavilsky has already set the Stetson record for Points in a Season (29) breaking the previous mark of 25 set by Melissa This (1996) and Kristy Porcelli (1999). In her second year she is already Stetson's 6^th all-time leading scorer with 44 points and is tied for 4^th all-time in assists with 12, and is 5^th all-time in goals with 16.

Earlier in the season Gavilsky earned A-Sun Offensive Player of the Week honors September 15 and October 13.

This is the first Player of the Year award for the Stetson soccer program. April Eilering (2006) and Emma Astrom (2003) earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Hermosa has been an anchor on the Stetson back line all season. She has showed maturity beyond her years since game one and made some spectacular defensive plays. Offensively Hermosa scored the first goal of her career in the season finale at Florida Gulf Coast to go along with 14 shots and five shots on goal. For her efforts she was named to the 2008 A-Sun All-Freshman Team.
