Box Score Tallahassee, Fla. ? Deland native Justin Bass had another solid performance for the Hatters with two doubles and a single in four at bats but it wasn't nearly enough to hold off the #2 team in the nation. Florida State scored a season-high in runs on its way to a 19-3 victory over Stetson Wednesday night in Tallahassee.
Stetson scored its first runs in the top of the 8th inning when Brad Pippa came through with a 2-out single up the middle driving in two. Sean Emory reached base with one out when he was hit by a pitch. Casey Frawley followed with an infield single and the Hatters had the makings of a rally. Josh Davis then reached on a fielder's choice forcing Emory at third. Erich Holland was hit by a pitch to load the bases and then Pippa came up in a pinch hitting role and picked up his pair of RBI.
The Hatters added one more run in the top of the 9th inning. Jeff Simpson led of with a walk and advanced to third when Mark Rood reached on a throwing error by the 3rd baseman. Simpson then crossed the plate when Sean Emory grounded into a double play.
For the second consecutive night Stetson had to reach deep into its staff and use five pitchers. Freshman Brad Tressler was the last to take the field and the first to put on an impressive performance. He pitched the final 2 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs and striking out three batters.
The loss dropped Stetson's overall record to 11-13 on the season, while #2 Florida State raised its mark to 21-2. Stetson will leave Tallahassee and travel north to Macon, Georgia to take on Mercer University in an A-Sun series on Friday and Saturday.
