Mt. Pleasant, S.C. ? The Stetson men's soccer team (3-3-1) dropped the final game of the Saturn of Charleston/Nike Soccer Classic 2-0 to the College of Charleston (6-3-0). Hatter defenders Richard Porteous (Austin, Texas) and Robert Hodge (Devon, England), and midfielder Kirk Labusch (Brandon, Fla.) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The game was a defensive battle between two teams ranked in the Top-10 of the South Region of the NSCAA. Stetson controlled much of the scoreless first half and went into the break with a 6-4 advantage in shots, yet could not finish with a goal.
Although the College of Charleston had just three shots in the second half (two for Stetson), it was able to score on two of those opportunities.
At 54:33 the Cougars picked up its first goal by Branko Gavric, and scored again on a breakaway by Kareem Yearwood at 80:03.
Stetson goalkeeper Marc Galizia (Bradenton, Fla.), last week's A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week, finished the game with two saves. Labusch, Porteous, and Cody Dawson (Niceville, Fla.) each had two shots.
Next up for the Hatters is the A-Sun Conference opener on Thursday, October 2, 7:00 p.m. at Campbell University.
