DeLand, Fla. - Playing without star freshman setter Kelli Carneal (Fredericksburg, Va.), the Stetson volleyball team (1-18, 0-12 Atlantic Sun) struggled to find a rhythm in a 25-16, 25-13, 25-18 home loss to A-Sun rival Jacksonville (14-5, 10-2 A-Sun) Friday evening at the Edmunds Center. Junior outside hitter Stephanie Canfield (Panama City, Fla.) paced the Hatters with nine kills while junior setter Megan Stewart (St. Augustine, Fla.) filled in for Carneal with 12 assists and seven digs.
The Dolphins out-killed the Hatters 47-25 and out-hit them .343 to .148 in the match; Kathryn Kane and Brooke Singleton led the way for JU with 13 kills each. Nicki Kent added 10 kills while setter Hannah Munneke notched a 34-assist, 10-dig double-double. Jacksonville libero Shelley Walroth, the A-Sun's all-time career digs leader, added to her total with 13, tying Stetson senior libero Anna Becker (McLean, Ill.) for the match lead.
Senior right side Sarah Sears (Ashburn, Va.) helped out Stewart with the setting duties, recording nine assists of her own. Sophomore middle blocker Sam Stonish (Stony Brook, N.Y.) collected seven digs for the Hatters.
