Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Stetson volleyball team fell to 1-26 on the season with a 3-0 loss at Volusia County rival Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday evening by the score of 25-14, 25-17, 25-21. The loss was only the fourth in 48 tries in program history against B-CU and snapped a seven-match Hatter winning streak in the series. Tonight also marked the first time Bethune-Cookman has ever beaten the Hatters 3-0 since the two teams first met in 1987. Sophomore middle blocker Sam Freeman (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) led Stetson with eight kills.
The Hatters had not lost to B-CU prior to tonight since November 2, 2004; tonight's match also handed Stetson its second 13-match losing streak of the season, tying a program record for futility.
Junior setter Megan Stewart (St. Augustine, Fla.) had 12 assists and six digs for Stetson while senior libero Anna Becker (McLean, Ill.) and freshman defensive specialist Monique Russell (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied nine digs each. Jessica Wilson led the Wildcats with 16 kills and nine digs; setter Julie Gibson handed out 27 assists.
