Macon, Ga. - The Stetson volleyball team had no answers Friday evening for host Mercer in a 25-20, 25-7, 25-20 loss in Atlantic Sun Conference action at the University Center. The Hatters dropped to 1-24 overall and 0-18 in the A-Sun with the loss while Mercer improved to 9-17 and 7-10 in the A-Sun. Senior right side Sarah Sears (Ashburn, Va.) had 11 assists, seven kills and four digs for the Hatters; she also tied a Stetson program record with her 106th career match played this evening.
Sears, who ironically began her college days with a redshirt year at Mercer in 2005, is primed to become the Stetson all-time leader in matches played tomorrow afternoon at Kennesaw State. She will break a mark currently held by former teammate Rebecca Orzechowicz '09 and Tanya Roe '97.
Junior setter Megan Stewart (St. Augustine, Fla.) had nine assists and four digs for the Hatters while senior libero Anna Becker (McLean, Ill.) notched a match-high 16 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Sam Freeman (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) registered five errorless kills along with five blocks.
The Bears, who out-killed the Hatters 56-25 and out-hit them .353 to .160, received double-doubles from Rachel Urbelis (13 kills, 12 digs) and Amiee Frutchey (12 kills, 10 digs) in their victory. Chelsea Gebben and Nickie Halbert handed out 22 assists each while Charlotte Harris contributed 10 digs and Libby Hansch 10 kills.
The Hatters conclude the road portion of their conference schedule tomorrow afternoon at Kennesaw State. The match begins at 3:30 p.m. and will be shown on A-Sun.TV.
