DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson men's soccer team dropped its final exhibition 3-0 at USF on Thursday night. The Bulls are ranked 11th in the nation in the NSCAA's preseason poll.
Down just 1-0 at the half, Stetson was very much into the game until five minutes into the second half when it gave up a sloppy corner kick goal and found itself trailing by a pair.
"We had our chances", said Head Coach T. Logan Fleck. "USF is 11th in the nation and a very fast team, yet we did have our chances. With some work and after fixing a few things, we wouldn't mind playing them again (in the post-season)."
USF led Stetson 14-9 in shots, while the Hatters held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Fredrik Brustad (Oslo, Norway) led the visitors with three shots, two of which were on goal. Senior Set Carpintero (Orlando, Fla.) was the only other Hatter with multiple shots (2).
"Defensively (Ryan) Corning played well, (Robert) Hodge was his usual solid self, and both of our keepers Logan Potter and Dan Billman showed good composure in goal", added Fleck.
Stetson will open the regular season Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. when it hosts Northwood University at the Stetson Soccer Complex.
