Hatters Swept at Home by Belmont

DeLand, Fla. - Visiting Belmont (5-8, 3-2 Atlantic Sun) swept the Stetson volleyball team (0-11, 0-5 A-Sun) 25-8, 25-16, 25-17 Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.  Sophomore outside hitter Kaylee Ream (Venice, Fla.) had a match-high five kills for the Hatters.  Freshman setter Kelli Carneal (Fredericksburg, Va.) added 13 assists and four blocks.

As has been the case in all of Stetson's eight straight shutout losses, the Hatters were badly out-killed (47-17) and out-hit (.366 to .109).  The Stetson service reception game was particularly problematic as the Bruins racked up 10 service aces.  Senior libero Anna Becker (McLean, Ill.) was the top Hatter defender with eight digs.

Maggie Johnson led Belmont with 10 kills while setter Channing Salava recorded 35 assists, six digs and five kills.  Jenny Gray had a near double-double for the Bruins with 10 digs and eight kills.

Stetson is off until Friday evening when it visits A-Sun rival North Florida; the Hatters hope to win at UNF Arena for the third consecutive year.  The match begins at 7 p.m. and can be seen on A-Sun.TV.
