DeLand, Fla. - The postseason honors for the Stetson softball squad continued to roll in on Thursday as senior pitcher Amanda Lindsey (Byhalia, Miss.) and senior catcher Jessica Lokeinsky (Cooper City, Fla.) were each named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/Louisville Slugger All-South Region Second Team. This is the first such award for Lokeinsky; Lindsey was a Second Team All-Southeast Region honoree as a sophomore in 2008.
Lindsey, a Second Team All-Atlantic Sun and A-Sun All-Tournament honoree who earned her spot at Utility/Pitcher (for pitchers who also hit in the lineup), recently completed a remarkable senior season in which she went 25-12 with a 1.21 ERA and 264 strikeouts in the circle and also batted .278 with nine home runs, 22 RBI and 40 walks. She ranks eighth in the nation in earned run average and third in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Lindsey concluded her career with a program record 828 career strikeouts and 70 victories, good for third all-time at Stetson.
Lokeinsky, who recently became Stetson's first All-Conference catcher in the Frank Griffin Era, can now add All-Region honors to her list of accomplishments. The senior backstop enjoyed a career year at the plate, batting .261 with six home runs and 22 RBI. She threw out 11 would-be base-stealers and caught 54 of the team's 55 games.
Lindsey and Andrea Migliori '09 were each named to the NFCA Southeast Region Second Team in 2008 as Stetson players have now found their way onto the list twice in the last three years. The Hatters were re-classified from the Southeast to the South Region in 2009. The only other A-Sun player to land on an All-Region squad was Lipscomb pitcher Whitney Kiihnl, the conference's Player and Pitcher of the Year; she landed on the Southeast's First Team.
10 of the 12 selections to the NFCA/Louisville Slugger South First Team hail from the powerful Southeastern Conference, including three players from NCAA Tournament #1 seed Alabama and two from #12 seed LSU. Mississippi State's Chelsea Bramlett, the only catcher to out-point Lokeinsky in the balloting and thus receive First Team honors, is a member of the USA National Team.
Joining Lindsey and Lokeinsky on the Second Team are pitchers Kasey Barrett (FIU), Brianna Streetmon (Georgia Southern) and Cody Trahan (LSU), designated player Miranda Dixon (Arkansas) and outfielders Brianna Love (Louisiana-Monroe), Rachel Mitchell (LSU) and Cassie Reilly-Boccia (Alabama). Around the infield are Central Arkansas's Kasey Britt at first base, Brie Rojas of FIU at second base, Chattanooga's Tiffany Baker at third base and Nina Iduate of Georgia Southern at shortstop.
First and second teams were chosen by the NFCA voters in each of 10 evaluation regions (South, Southeast, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-East, Central, Midwest, Great Lakes, Pacific and West).
