Kennesaw, Ga. - Offensive struggles all evening doomed the Stetson volleyball team (4-11, 0-4 Atlantic Sun) in a 25-10, 25-12, 25-15 loss at A-Sun rival Kennesaw State (8-12, 3-2 A-Sun) Friday at the KSU Convocation Center. The Owls out-hit the Hatters .280 to -.054 and held Stetson to 15 kills in three sets.
Stetson was blocked five times and committed 15 other attack errors while giving up 10 service aces, putting itself in a hole from which it could not recover. Sophomore middle blocker Ellen Hawks (Austin, Texas) and sophomore outside hitter Kaley Melville (New Germany, Minn.) tied for the team high with four kills each; freshman setter Erika White (Jacksonville, Ill.) had 10 assists and freshman defensive specialist Savannah Byl (Bradenton, Fla.) came up with eight digs. Melville had seven digs to go with her four kills.
Alyssa Lang (11 kills, seven digs), Justine Young (10 kills) and Baylee Strachan (10 kills, four aces) formed a three-headed attack that powered the Owls to the victory. Sara Metroka handed out 36 assists and Camille Pedraza collected 16 digs to support the KSU effort.
The Hatters make their way back south to the Sunshine State, but will first stop in Macon, Ga. to take on longtime A-Sun rival Mercer at 3:00 pm Saturday. Live Stats links are available at GoHatters.com; fans can watch the match at ASun.TV.
