DeLand, Fla. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) named the Stetson softball team on Wednesday as one of its Top 10 All-Academic Teams for the 2010-11 season. The Hatters tied for 10th in NCAA Division I with a 3.477 team grade point average.
In the 2010-11 school year, the Stetson softball program produced 14 Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team selections, one A-Sun President's Scholar (Jill Semento '11) and three Conference Scholars (senior Carolyn Boyd, junior Tara Formisano and senior Grace Turner). Semento was also named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District III First Team in May 2011.
Tennessee Tech led the national award winners with a 3.619 team GPA, followed in the top 10 by Southern Illinois, Robert Morris, Houston Baptist, Bowling Green, Youngstown State, Troy, Alabama, A-Sun rival ETSU, Stetson and Eastern Michigan. The Hatters and EMU tied for 10th at 3.477 apiece.
The Stetson softball team will play its fall exhibition season entirely at Patricia Wilson Field November 4-12. Admission to all games is free. 11 letterwinners return for the Hatters this season, including 2011 Second Team All-Atlantic Sun/Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team sophomore center fielder Chrissy Morello (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and seniors Boyd, Turner, outfielder Brittany Knipp (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) and shortstop Chelsey Trotto (Lantana, Fla.)
