TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Stetson men's tennis team finished the first day of play in the main
draw at the ITA Southeast Regional in Tallahassee with one singles victory.
Senior
Didrik Berg (Oslo, Norway) picked up the only singles win of the day. He
defeated Pedro Wagner of UCF 6-4, 6-3. He will advance to play Gabriel Flores
of Miami at 9 a.m on Saturday.
Freshman
Simon Julin (Stockholm, Sweden) fell to Victor Mauz of Miami 6-0, 6-3. Julin
will move into the consolation draw, where he will take on Dean Tsamas of
Florida Gulf Coast at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Freshman
Cahit Kapukiran (Izmir, Turkey) lost to Wilfredo Gonzales of Miami 6-3, 6-0.
Gonzales is one of the top 16 seeds in the tournament. Kapukiran will move into
the consolation draw, where he will play against Amar Hromic of UCF at 12 p.m.
on Saturday.
In
doubles, the duo of Kapukiran and junior Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway) lost
their match to Gordon Watson and Billy Federhofer of Florida 8-4. Berg and
freshman Laurynas Antropikas (Palanga, Lithuania) lost their match, falling to
Ben Wagland and Eric Diaz of Georgia 8-4.
Freshman
Egor Panyushkin (Moscow, Russia) and Julin also lost their match, falling to
Federico Sabogal and Everth Dzib of South Florida 8-3.
