Dingus Finishes Fourth at Mission Inn

Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla. – Stetson University freshman Dustin Dingus went into Sunday's final round of the Mission Inn Intercollegiate with a share of the 36-hole lead, but he was unable to earn his first collegiate victory, finishing fourth.

Dingus (Palm Harbor, Fla.) closed with a three-over par round of 75 to finish two shots behind Colin Brennan of Johnson & Wales. Brennan shot the low round of the tournament on Sunday, a three-under par 69, to move past Dingus and Appalachian State's Josh Nichols for the title.

Johnson & Wales teammate Chris Anderson and Bethune-Cookman's Ryan Fricker also moved past Dingus and Nichols to finish tied for second.

After storming to the lead with consecutive rounds of 299 on Friday and Saturday, Johnson & Wales (884) cruised to the team title with the low round of the tournament, 286, on Sunday. Bethune-Cookman (899) also finished strong with a final round score of 296, but the Wildcats were 15 shots behind J&W at the finish.

Host St. John's (904) finished third with Appalachian State (906) and Tampa (914) rounding out the top five. Stetson finished eighth in the 10-team field with a final score of 922.

Behind Dingus, the Hatters had freshman Andrew Peterson (Andover, Minn.) Finish tied for 21st after shooting a final round score of 75 to finish at 230. Junior Tyler White (Palm Harbor, Fla.) tied for 41st after bouncing back with a 75 on Sunday to finish at 236.

Sophomore Jose Rosales Cruz (Queretaro, Mexico) finished 46th at 247 after a final round score of 81. Sophomore Matt Taylor (Naples, Fla.) withdrew from the tournament following the second round.

The Hatters will continue a stretch of four tournaments in four weeks when they travel to Charleston, SC, this weekend to compete in the Wendy's Kiawah Island Classic, hosted by the Charleston Southern, at Turtle Point Golf Club.

Stetson will close the fall season on November 5-6 when the Hatters host the Stetson Invitational at Victoria Hills Golf Club in DeLand.
