Despite a near triple-double by senior
setter Kelli Carneal, Jacksonville defeated Stetson 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-17) in an Atlantic Sun Conference volleyball match Tuesday
evening at the Edmunds Center.
Carneal finished with 11
kills, 13 assists, and nine digs for the Hatters (3-16, 0-3 A-Sun). Kayla Weller added 15 assists, Monique
Russell picked up 12 digs, and Morgan Pautsch hit .833 (five kills and no
errors on six attempts).
“We had a few bright
spots, Kelli Carneal almost had a triple double, she did a lot of good things
for us,” Stetson head coach Tim Loesch said.
“Kaley Melville was a good spark, kept the team fighting hard, even when
we got behind. Morgan Pautsch had a
great day, unfortunately our setters couldn't get her the ball more.
“Again, we only had three
or four girls contributing, and the rest struggled a bit. Unfortunately we had a couple injuries and we
are still trying to solidify the last couple spots, and hopefully we can do that
soon.”
The Dolphins (3-13, 1-2
A-Sun) were led by Gabriela Roman who had 11 kills, and Taylor Nyquist who had
10 kills.
The Hatters will continue
their three-game home stand with a pair of weekend matches at the Edmunds
Center. Stetson will host USC Upstate at
7 p.m. on Friday and ETSU at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
