Sasha Sims Named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week

For the third time this season, Stetson University senior forward Sasha Sims (Fayetteville, Ga.) has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Sims shot 70% from the floor and averaged 21.5 points per game to lead Stetson to a pair of home victories last week.  On Thursday, she scored a game-high 24 points in the Hatters 78-64 win over USC Upstate.  She was 7-for-11 from the floor and 9-of-11 from the free throw line.

Sims then registered 19 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in the Hatters 91-62 win over ETSU on Saturday.  She was 7-for-9 from the field, including one three-pointer, and 4-for-5 from the free throw line.  The victory was Stetson's ninth in a row at home.

For the season, Sims leads the team and ranks second in the conference with a scoring average of 18.5.  She also ranks fourth in the league in field goal pct. (.519), seventh in free throw pct. (.806), and sixth in blocked shots (1.0).

Sims's 1399 career points scored ranks fifth in school history, and her 137 blocks is tied for the school record.

It is Stetson's fourth A-Sun Player of the Week honoree this season.  Sims was also selected on Nov. 25 and Dec. 23, while Brianti Saunders was recognized on Dec. 9.

Winners of two straight and five out of six, Stetson (10-5, 2-1 A-Sun) will visit Mercer at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
