Men's Tennis Downs Green Bay 4-3

The Stetson men's tennis team rebounded from a conference setback its last time out with a 4-3 win over visiting Green Bay at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon.

“Last year's win versus Green Bay was a battle and today's match was no different," Stetson associate head coach Christophe Noblet said. "It came down to the final court and I am particularly glad with the way Graham [Ball] handled himself to get us the victory.”

Ball, who has played most at the five position in his first season with the Hatters, moved up to number three with junior Nathan Debut out of the lineup. After winning 6-3 in set one, Ball fought to a 7-5 victory in set two to secure the win for Stetson.

The Hatters opened things up by winning the first two doubles matches on Tuesday. Senior Hans Adrian Riseng and Debut won 8-1 over Michael Tenzer and Howard Scott, who came in ranked 70th in the nation.

Sophomore Laurynas Antropikas and junior Chester Espie then won 8-5 at the number two spot to clinch the doubles point. Sophomores Egor Panyushkin and Cahit Kapukiran were up 6-5 at number three before the match went unfinished.

“Our three doubles pairs played with great intensity today, especially at number one where we picked up a significant win versus a nationally ranked pair,” said Noblet.

After Espie won 6-2, 6-2 at number four singles to give Stetson a 2-0 lead, Green Bay countered with wins at one, six, and two to take the advantage a 3-2.

Panyushkin tied things up when he won 7-6 (5), 7-5 over Rowan Isaaks at number five singles, and Ball clinched the match with his team-leading ninth singles win of the year.

“Our focus is now onto our next conference match," Noblet said. "North Florida is always a tough opponent and this year is no different.”

Stetson will host North Florida on Saturday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m.
