Hatters Finishes Strong at Conference Fall Tournament

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Stetson men's tennis team wrapped up play at the UNF Fall Tournament with several strong individual and doubles performances across the weekend.

Christian Kuehne highlighted the Hatters' singles action, posting a win over Verdese Filippo (LU) 7-6(4), 6-3 and a walkover win against Lu Wei Hsin (APSU) after falling to UTSA's Lahjomri Yazid 6-3, 1-6, 7-10. Kuehne also teamed with Santiago Padilla Cote to defeat FGCU's Pablo Paternostro and Hugo Magnusson 7-5 in doubles.

Sophomore Kartik Mandla earned a singles victory against LU's Facundo Perlov, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7, and paired with Alex Verlaguet and Mihnea Maftei in doubles, producing several competitive matches, including a 6-7(5) loss against UNA's Alex Despoja and Lachlan Brain.

Santiago Padilla Cote contributed with a singles win over APSU's Rohan Loubser (6-2, 6-1) and doubles victories with Xavier Sarda Marti (6-1 vs. BU) and Christian Kuehne (7-5 vs. FGCU).

Alexandre Verlaguet opened with a singles win over UTSA's Saul Berldullas (6-3, 6-1) and competed in doubles matches with Mandla. Xavier Sarda Marti and Mihnea Maftei also posted competitive singles matches with multiple three-set battles.

Coach Travis Sandlant reflected on the tournament, saying, "We didn't start the tournament on the first day how we wanted results wise but finished strongly on the last day. There were quite a few close matches that we had chances to win. We need to take better advantage of those opportunities during pivotal points when finishing matches. This is part of the improvement process as we now look forward to hosting our fall invitational in early November."

The Hatters' next tournament will be the Mad Hatters Invitational, hosted at home in DeLand, Florida, at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center from November 7-9.
