Charleston, S.C. -- The Stetson volleyball team (5-4) dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to the College of Charleston and Wake Forest Saturday in the final day of the CofC Classic at TD Arena.
The Cougars (6-4) won by scores of 25-23, 25-16, and 25-21 in the first match, while the Demon Deacons (8-2) won by scores of 25-17, 25-21, 26-24 in the nightcap.
Libero Alexa Drost was named to the all-tournament team.
"It was a tough weekend competition-wise, but I felt like we were extremely competitive," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said. "We had some opportunities in some tight sets, but the points just didn't fall our way."
Setter Kayla Weller picked up 63 assists during the two matches Saturday and surpassed the 2,000-assist mark for her career. She is just the ninth player in school history to reach that milestone.
Madison Akins picked up a double-double in the second game, recording 12 kills and 10 digs against Wake Forest. Also in that contest, Shelby Connors collected eight kills and hit .500, while Weller notched six kills and hit .750.
Against the College of Charleston, McKenna Foster and Jessica Armstrong each had 11 kills to lead the team. Drost led the defense with 12 digs.
Stetson hit .204 against the College of Charleston and .213 against Wake Forest.
"We hit at a high percentage all weekend, it just came down to a few missed serves against teams that don't make those types of errors," Hernandez said. "We found some good things to improve on, and I feel it will make us stronger before our last tournament and before we head into conference."
The Hatters will return to action next weekend at the Scenic City Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn.
