The suddenly surging Stetson women's soccer team continues Atlantic Sun Conference play on Friday when the Hatters visit North Florida for a 7 p.m. match in Jacksonville, Fla. Stetson then returns home for a 1 p.m., Sunday non-conference contest with South Carolina State at the Athletic Training Center.
The Hatters (6-4 overall, 1-0 A-Sun) enter the weekend tied with three others at the top of the conference standings. Stetson has won four of its last five matches, including last Saturday's 2-1 overtime win against Jacksonville. Sophomore Sarah Collins earned A-Sun Offensive Player of the Week notice after scoring both goals for the Hatters.
Collins and fellow sophomore Adrianna Suarez are tied for fifth in the conference with four goals apiece, while senior Mara Keomanivane is second with four assists.
UNF (2-8, 0-1) opened A-Sun play last weekend with a 2-0 loss at FGCU. The Ospreys have been shutout in seven of 10 matches this year, and have scored a total of six goals all season.
South Carolina State owns a 1-6-0 record entering the weekend.
Surging
With four wins in their last five outings, the Hatters are enjoying their most successful stretch since the end of the 2007 season when the Hatters won six of eight matches to close the regular season. A win on Friday will also give the Hatters their first 2-0 conference start since 2003.
Series Records
Friday's match is the 12th meeting between Stetson and UNF. The Hatters lead the all-time series, 6-5-0. Stetson has won the last two meetings with the Ospreys, including a 2-1 victory last year in DeLand. Stetson is also 4-0 all-time against South Carolina State, including last season's 5-0 win at the ATC.
Up Next
The Hatters continue their home stand next weekend when they host Kennesaw State, 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9 and USC Upstate, 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 11. Stetson will honor its senior class in pregame ceremonies prior to the contest with USC Upstate.
