DeLand, Fla. — Stetson struck early and controlled much of the first half, but visiting West Georgia rallied with two second-half goals to edge the Hatters 2–1 on Sunday afternoon at the Stetson Athletic Training Center. Prior to the match the team recognized seniors,
Kelly Gende,
Avery Wise, and
Bryn Forchic for their contributions to the program.
The Hatters wasted no time getting on the board, as
Ava Kooker scored in the 7th minute to give Stetson a 1–0 lead. Kooker remained active throughout the first half, generating multiple scoring chances and forcing several key saves from West Georgia goalkeeper Emily Sanabria.
Stetson continued to apply offensive pressure, with
Stella Comana and
Katharina Marx each challenging Sanabria from distance. Despite a missed penalty attempt midway through the half, the Hatters maintained their advantage and carried a 1–0 lead into halftime behind a strong attacking display and composed defensive effort.
West Georgia equalized shortly after the break, as Campbell Taylor converted in the 48th minute to make it 1–1. Just six minutes later, Chiara Lape added another for the Wolves to give the visitors a 2–1 edge.
The Hatters pushed hard for the equalizer in the closing minutes, creating several opportunities off corner kicks and sustained possession in the attacking third.
Kelly Gende nearly found the back of the net late, but Sanabria and the West Georgia defense held firm to preserve the narrow lead.
Kooker led the Hatters with six shots, including three on target, while Gende added five attempts with two on frame.
Riley Tarvin played the full 90 minutes in goal, recording two saves. Comana also tallied three shots, keeping pressure on the opposing defense throughout the match.
Stetson now turns its attention to the road, visiting FGCU on Friday, Oct. 25, for a 5 p.m. matchup in Fort Myers, Fla.
