Hatters Kristine Odaiyar Earns A-Sun Honors

MACON, Ga. - Stetson's Kristine Odaiyar and North Florida's Emelie Alpe tied at the Jacksonville Classic for sixth place with identical rounds and, in the process, shared the Atlantic Sun Women's Golfer of the Week award, announced Thursday by the league office.

Odaiyar and Stetson captured fifth as a team behind her rounds of 71-74-71 to guide the junior for a tie for sixth in the 14-team field. The Ocala, Fla. native finished with 40 pars in the two-day event while performing best on par 5s (-3) and par 3s (-2). The A-Sun honor is the second of her career in just seven events as a member of the Hatters.

Alpe guided the Ospreys to a third-place team finish with rounds of 71-74-71 at the Marsh Landing Country Club in Pone Vedra Beach, Fla. Her two under-par rounds increased UNF's program record to seven, while she tallied 10 birdies in the three rounds including six in her final round. The honor marks the third of her career and second this season.

Stetson was originally scheduled to return to action this weekend at the UNCG Forest Oaks Classic, but because of heavy rains in North Carolina, and the potential for tropical weather, the Hatters will not compete in that event. Instead, Stetson will return to action October 18-20 at the Fighting Camel Fall Classic in Buies Creek, NC.
