DeLand, Fla. – On the verge of an Atlantic Sun Conference weekend sweep, the Stetson volleyball team let a 2-0 lead slip away and fell 3-2 (19-25, 23-25, 25-13, 25-20, 15-9) to visiting UNF Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.
Haley Tippett registered 17 kills and Madison Akins added 15 kills to help lead the Hatters (10-14, 4-6 A-Sun).
The Ospreys (18-9, 4-6) blocked 16 of Stetson's attack attempts overall, including 13 after the intermission.
“I felt like UNF did a really good job of adjusting to what we were doing, especially in the blocking aspect,” Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said. Offensively, we didn't make any adjustments. They kept taking away the cross from us and we weren't really doing anything except hitting the cross. We were really predictable. Our passing broke down. I just felt like we got really inconsistent as the match went along and they became more aggressive.
Stetson hit a combined .246 in the first two sets en route to a 2-0 lead. However, the Hatters committed 23 errors and hit just .071 over the final three sets. UNF, meanwhile, hit .400 over that same span.
“We can't win the first two sets and come out of the break and not be ready to play, and I don't feel like we were ready to play,” Hernandez said.
Madison Fitzsimmons (11 kills) and McKenna Foster (10 kills) also reach double figures in kills. Michelle Kastner picked up a team-high 16 digs, while Kayla Weller dished out 47 assists.
Katarina Raicevic tallied 15 kills to lead UNF.
Stetson will visit Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. Friday.
