DeLand, Fla. – One day after Jessica Griffin hit three home runs and drove in 10, Courtney Brandt produced a standout day of her own.
The Hatter senior tossed a no-hitter and belted a grand slam in game one, then hit a three-run double in game two to help lift Stetson to a 9-0 and 10-0 doubleheader sweep over visiting Morgan State Saturday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.
The Hatters (7-3) outscored the Bears 43-2 in sweeping the four-game series from Morgan State (0-5).
Brandt (3-1) faced the minimum number of hitters in the five inning victory in game one. She struck out two and did not walk a batter, although the Bears had two baserunners reach during the game. One was eliminated on a caught stealing and the other was doubled off first base. Brandt retired the final 10 batters in a row.
Kelsey Waters hit a three-run home run in the first inning, and Brandt's second career grand slam came as part of a five-run fourth inning. She finished the game 3-for-3 with five RBI. Jessie TenBroeck and Griffin collected two hits apiece.
In game two, Chelsea Hostetler (4-2) tossed a three-hit shutout, walking one and striking out three.
Jazz Vasquez went 3-for-3 to lead the offense, while Kayla Drury added two hits and two runs.
The Hatters will host the Stetson Invitational next weekend at Patricia Wilson Field.
