DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University women's basketball senior class was honored prior to Saturday's regular season home finale. Senior Jama Sharp went a step further and decided to do some honoring of her own.
With classmate Cherisse Burris unable to compete all season with an ACL injury, Sharp shed her usual No. 22 uniform and chose to wear Burris's No. 3 instead.
"(CeeCee) has been with us all season, every game, every practice, and even though she isn't able to play, I just wanted to honor her because she is always there for us," Sharp said.
Sharp certainly did her teammate proud, registering 21 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists in Stetson's 77-45 victory over North Florida in the Atlantic Sun regular season finale at the Edmunds Center.
"I thought it was a very classy gesture," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "It was Jama's idea. She asked 'CeeCee', and 'CeeCee' said it would be great."
The Hatters completed the regular season with a record of 22-6 overall, 11-3 in conference play. Stetson will be the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament and will host Lipscomb in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday night.
On Saturday, senior Myeisha Hall led all scorers with 22 points behind 7-for-14 shooting from the field. She hit four 3-pointers and also picked up seven rebounds.
Senior C.J. Coddington added nine points and three rebounds in 33 minutes of action.
All three seniors received warm ovations from the home crowd after checking in out in the final minutes.
"I thought they played hard, and I was pleased overall," Bria said. "I thought we were a little sloppy at times, but I think with everything going on, it can be difficult. It was a good way for us to finish our regular season."
Sharp went 8-for-11 from the floor and hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Hatters. Amber Porter and Brianti Saunders each tallied nine points on the afternoon, while Sarah Sagerer chipped in seven.
The Hatters shot 47.4 percent from the floor while holding UNF (11-18, 2-12) to just 26.9 percent shooting.
The eight seeds for the conference tournament have been set. FGCU is the No. 1 seed, followed by No. 2 Stetson, No. 3 Northern Kentucky, No. 4 Jacksonville, No. 5 Kennesaw State, No. 6 USC Upstate, No. 7 Lipscomb, and No. 8 UNF.
If the Hatters advance past Lipscomb, Stetson would host the winner of the Northern Kentucky vs. USC Upstate game on March 11.
