DeLand, Fla. -- Simply put, it just wasn't the Hatters night.
Stetson could not get very many of its shots to fall in a heartbreaking 53-52 loss to Northern Kentucky in the Atlantic Sun Conference semifinals Wednesday night at the Edmunds Center.
The Hatters (23-7) shot just 33 percent from the floor and hit 2-of-20 3-point attempts.
"It is certainly disappointing for us," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said. "I thought we battled pretty well, but at the end of the day you can't go 2-for-20 from the arc against a team that is going to pack it in on you. I thought we had some good looks, we simply didn't make them."
Stetson trailed 51-49 with under to minute to play when Myeisha Hall drove the lane, scored, got fouled, and converted a three-point play to give Stetson a one-point lead.
On NKU's next possession, Molly Franson hit a pair free throws with 15.9 seconds left to put the Norse (19-12) ahead 53-52.
After a Stetson timeout, Jama Sharp took one last shot before the buzzer but couldn't get it to fall, and NKU escaped with the one-point victory.
"I don't think the game came down to the one play," Bria said. "You look back to how we started the game, and we didn't start the game very well. They started with a lot of energy, and we didn't do that."
Hall, Sharp and Aisha Turner scored 11 points each for Stetson. Turner scored seven points in row during one stretch in the second half.
The loss likely ends Stetson's quest for an NCAA berth. The Hatters will find out Monday night its first round opponent in the WNIT.
"It definitely falls short of what we want to do and where we want to go," Bria said. "We still have a lot of basketball left. We just have to stay up and get better, and see what happens in the WNIT."
