Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to Binghamton

Boca Raton, Fla. -- The Stetson volleyball team saw a 2-1 lead slip away and fell 3-2 (24-26, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 15-7) to Binghamton in the final match of the FAU Invitational Saturday.

After falling 3-0 to Bethune-Cookman earlier in the day. the Hatters completed the season opening tournament with a 1-3 record.

Stetson held a 64-44 advantage over Binghamton in kills. However. the Hatters committed 40 attacking errors, 11 service errors, and 11 serve receive errors.

"I think our energy was better, and I think our serving and serve receive were more aggressive, but I felt like that those areas got out of control in the fourth and fifth sets," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said. "We produced more offense, but we equally produced as many attacking errors. We have got to get under control on our side of the court."

Haley Tippett and McKenna Foster each recorded double-doubles. Tippett led the team with 15 kills and added 14 digs, while Foster posted 13 kills and 11 digs.

Madison Akins (13 kills) and Shelby Connors (11 kills) also reached double figures in kills. Kayla Weller registered 53 assists, while Michelle Kastner picked up 19 digs.

Madison Fitzsimmons contributed to seven of the Hatters' 12 blocks defensively. Connors and Weller tallied five blocks apiece.

Foster and Fitzsimmons were named to the all-tournament team.
