Stetson's Lucas Diniz and Paul Ladwig have been honored as the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Soccer Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for their performances last weekend, the league office announced today.
Diniz and Ladwig helped the Hatters to a pair of season-opening victories at Georgia Southern (3-1) and UAB (3-0), giving the Hatters their first 2-0 start since 2011.
Diniz wins his third career A-Sun weekly award after scoring five goals in two games. Against Georgia Southern on opening night, Diniz tallied a pair of goals as the Hatters rallied late for a 3-1 victory. In Sunday's 3-0 win at UAB, Diniz recorded the 14th hat trick in program history and the first since 2011.
Ladwig, meanwhile, did an outstanding job in goal as he made 10 saves in two games. He made four saves against Georgia Southern and six against UAB, including a save on a second-half penalty kick. His shutout of UAB was the third of his career. This is the second weekly A-Sun honor of his career.
The Hatters open the home portion of their 2015 schedule this weekend when they host Detroit, 7 p.m., Friday and Florida International, 7 p.m., Sunday. All home matches are played at the Athletic Training Center on East Minnesota Ave.
