Hatters Sweep NJIT 3-0 For First ASUN Win

Stetson posts a season-high .307 attack percentage

DeLand, Fla. – Fueled by a strong serving and blocking effort, Stetson nailed down its first ASUN Conference match of the season, 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-13) over visiting NJIT Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (4-14, 1-2 ASUN) recorded nine blocks and seven aces in the match, while hitting a season-high .307 as a team.

"I thought we played much better today," Stetson head coach Kristina Hernandez said.  "We had a real good hitting percentage in the second and third sets, but I felt like our serving really turned the match around for us today.  We were able to put a lot of pressure on NJIT during the second and third sets, and I felt like that was a big change for us.  It is always nice to get a sweep, especially in conference."

McKenna Foster registered a career-high six aces, including a stretch of four in a row late in the third set.

"It just sealed the game for us," Hernandez said.  "I feel like we just had some really good runs back at the service line, and that can totally shift a game.  That was a big strength for us today."

Madison Akins led a balanced offensive attack with 10 kills.  Eva Deisa tallied seven kills and four others contributed five kills apiece.  Setters Roxy Lake (17 assists) and Karmen Reivik (12 assists) helped run the offense.

The Hatters also benefited from a blocking game that produced three solo blocks and six block assists.  Shelby Connors assisted on five blocks while Deisa had one solo block and three assists.

Foster picked up a team-high 16 digs as well.

Katarzyna Klocek led NJIT (8-11, 0-3) with 14 kills.

The Hatters will visit Lipscomb at 7:30 p.m. ET Friday.
