Hatters Blanked at No.12 FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla.—Twelfth-ranked FGCU handed Stetson a 6-0 defeat in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Friday, extending the nation's longest winning streak to 10 games.
 
The top scoring offense in the nation was on full display Friday as the Eagles scored in a variety of ways. FGCU (10-2-1, 2-0-0) entered the contest averaging 3.17 goals per game.
 
FGCU wasted no time in opening the scoring as Arion Sobers-Assue scored on a scramble in the box in the third minute.
 
The Eagles added to their lead with a pair of goals in the final minutes before halftime. Miguel Jaime scored in the 34th minute, and Jiro Barriga Tomaya added the third goal of the night in the 41st minute, helping FGCU to a 3-0 halftime lead.
 
Sobers-Assue struck again in the 51st minute to give FGCU a 4-0 lead, and Albert Ruiz scored his ASUN-leading 12th goal of the season 79 seconds later for a 5-0 advantage.
 
Miguel Perez added the sixth – and final – goal in the 88th minute.
 
The Eagles took 23 shots, while Stetson (3-7-2, 1-3-0) managed 15. Stetson keeper Paul Ladwig, the ASUN leader in saves, stopped eight shots.
 
The Hatters next host UCF, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Athletic Training Center.
