Hatters Top Kennesaw State for Sixth Straight Win, 1-0

KENNESAW, Ga.—Adrianna Suarez scored the game's only goal and Stetson's defense turned in its third straight shutout to lead the Hatters to a record-tying sixth consecutive victory in a 1-0 decision over Kennesaw State, Sunday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Stetson's latest win not only improves the Hatters to a perfect 4-0-0 in Atlantic Sun Conference play, but also helped them clinch a conference tournament berth. Combined with Friday's 2-0 win at Lipscomb, the Hatters swept one of the most difficult road trips in the ASUN this weekend.

"I'm proud of this group," Stetson head coach Manoj Khettry said. "This is a tough road trip against two very good and very athletic teams and to get two wins and two shutouts says a lot about our resolve and our grit."

Suarez gave the Hatters (7-4-2 overall) the only goal they needed in the 40th minute. The junior scored from 12 yards away, beating KSU keeper Mady Carter thanks to a double assist from Annette Morton and Hailey Williams. The goal was Suarez's third of the season.

"On a day when we didn't play particularly well and didn't create a lot of chances, we were able to take advantage of the one very good chance that we had," Khettry said. "Annette was able to stay composed off of Hailey's free kick service and find Adrianna wide open in the box. Adrianna stayed composed and tucked a left-footed shot inside the far right corner from a tough angle and that was the difference."

Stetson's defense made the single goal stand up. Freshman goalkeeper Emily Plotz stopped seven shots, as the Hatters have now recorded five shutouts in their last six matches.

"I thought our defenders, all six that played did a fantastic job of winning long balls, denying crosses and keeping their shape," Khettry said. "Off all the shots we gave up this weekend, very few of them were inside the box. This game in particular our defenders made it easier for Emily to get a shutout."

Stetson closes out the home portion of its regular-season schedule when they host North Florida, 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Athletic Training Center.
