Hatters Ready to Square Off with Bisons at ASUN Tournament

Stetson men's soccer opens Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament play when the sixth-seeded Hatters face third-seeded Lipscomb, 7 p.m., Thursday, at FGCU in Fort Myers, Fla. The game will be streamed live on ESPN3 or the WatchESPN app.

The winner of Thursday's match will face No. 2 seed FGCU in the semifinals, 7 p.m., Saturday. The ASUN Championship game is Saturday, Nov. 12 at the site of the highest remaining seed.

Saturday's match with Lipscomb gives the Hatters a chance to redeem themselves after a difficult regular season. Stetson enters the postseason with a 4-9-2 overall record, but of the nine losses six came by one goal.

One of Stetson's "worst" defeats this came on Sept. 21 in a 2-0 loss to Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn. The Hatters kept the Bisons off the board in the first half, but Lipscomb scored in the 50th and 77th minutes to get the win.

Senior goalkeeper Paul Ladwig, who earlier today as named ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year, will be a big factor in helping Stetson advance. Ladwig leads the ASUN and ranks 10th nationally with 86 saves.

Lipscomb (9-5-2) enters tournament play with some serious momentum. The Bisons are 4-0-1 in their last five games, including a 1-1 tie with FGCU in the regular season finale last Saturday. An efficient offensive team, Lipscomb leads the ASUN in shots on-goal percentage (.518) and corner kicks (102).

Tournament Notes
Stetson is making its 21st appearance in the ASUN Tournament this year … the Hatters are 10-15-3 in ASUN Tournament play, winning championships in 2005 and 2009 … Stetson is making just its second appearance in the last four seasons after qualifying for 15 straight tournaments between 1998 and 2012 … Stetson's last tournament victory was a 1-0 semifinal win over Jacksonville in 2010.
