Hatters Go Cold From Field in Loss at East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C.—East Carolina's Andre Washington had 21 points, 16 rebounds and six blocked shots and Stetson shot just 20 percent from the field as the Hatters suffered a 73-50 loss to the Pirates, Sunday at Williams Arena.

Derick Newton led Stetson with 15 points but, despite repeated open looks throughout the game, the Hatters couldn't generate any offense.

Washington finished 7 of 9 from the field and 7 of 12 from the free throw line. The 7-1 transfer from Wake Forest spent all afternoon clogging the lane, helping to exacerbate Stetson's shooting woes from the perimeter.

The Hatters (2-1) entered Sunday's game shooting 39 percent from 3-point range as a team but made just 3 of 31 from distance against the Pirates (3-1).

East Carolina didn't exactly light it up. The Pirates shot just 42 percent from the field but more than made up for it by out-rebounding Stetson, 63-38.

ECU led 37-23 at halftime.

Divine Myles finished with 10 points and a season-high 10 rebounds for Stetson, his fourth career double-double. Caleb White led ECU with 22 points.

News & Notes
This was the first game of the Savannah Invitational for both teams … the three 3-pointers made by the Hatters are the fewest since making just one against Tennessee State on Dec. 5, 2015 … Derick Newton has scored in double figures in nine straight games dating back to last season …Divine Myles reached double figures in rebounds for the third time in his career.

Quotable
"We didn't make open looks today. In order for us to win a game like this we have to make those shots. That was really the difference in the game. East Carolina didn't overpower us. We just couldn't make a shot. We had a lot of good looks, they just wouldn't go in. That's the bottom line for me." – Stetson head coach Corey Williams
